Posted on February 26th, 2013

Company is one of the first to adopt HTML5 and RCS as fundamental building blocks of their platform architecture and “any content, any device, anywhere” strategy

February 26, 2013; South Hackensack, NJ – X-Factor Communications, LLC (“X-Factor”), the wholly owned subsidiary of X-Factor Communications Holdings, Inc. (OTC: XFCH), a premium provider of interactive digital media network software and services over its dmcp:// Digital Media Control Platform, announced today that it has expanded its platform capabilities, including the addition of HTML5 enabling publishing and broadcasting to multiple IP endpoint types, including digital signs, kiosks, desktops, tablets, SharePoint, intranet sites, telephones and mobile devices.

Based on extensive research and development, following months of discussion with customers and partners, X-Factor has added features and functionalitymaking it possible to easily deliver interactive content, more sophisticated and flexible templates, more automatic integration with a variety of messaging systems and social networks, and more powerful alerts. DSCP:// Digital Screen Control Portal Release 4.0 enhancements include:

  • The creation of an HTML-based browser, which includes HTML5 elements, enabling content to be pushed to any device with a browser that supports these elements;
  • Clickable content and alerts, engaging the viewer in ways not previously possible, turning what was one-way broadcasts into rich interactive experiences;
  • iFrame Objects, where an iFrame can be added to any template allowing the customer to display dynamic web-based content;
  • Channel Objects, enabling the addition of one channel embedded in another channel; and
  • Various Canvas Size Support.

The release, which is expected to go live in March 2013, is the most significant in the company’s history, as it incorporates HTML5 and RCS capabilities (using partner-provided add-ons), making it possible for all HTML5 enabled IP endpoints (smartphones, tablets, desktops, televisions, kiosks, signs and other displays) to display multimedia content in high-definition and without limitations based on operating systems.

Why It Matters:

  • X-Factor is an innovation leader in the digital media broadcasting, publishing and communications industries, enabling it to deploy these technologies to bring more value to companies wishing to deliver greater experiences to IP end-points.
  • As an early adopter of the new, more open industry standards, X-Factor is an even more flexible and highly “interoperable” partner which it believes will result in co-development opportunities through “embedding” X-Factor’s capabilities with other solutions.
  • The Company believes Release 4.0 will provide more compelling experiences for end-users while also making the administration of the platform easier for publishers, simpler for IT support teams in large enterprises, and more efficient for X-Factor’s development and support teams.

X-Factor has already been developing solutions which include combining unified communications for all fixed and mobile devices with content delivery and interactive user experiences. Some of these initial solutions are being demonstrated at Mobile World Congress 2013 conference in Barcelona this week.

“Working with X-Factor’s team, alongside another development partner, GENBAND has been able to create a completely unique solution that combines the ability for end-users to receive information, notifications, alerts, as well as make and receive phone calls, host video conferences and more,” said Patrick Gilbert, VP and Director of GENBAND’s Innovation Exchange. “X-Factor’s leadership in HTML5 and RCS made it possible to combine different types of communications experiences, and then share those experiences on both iOS and Android devices, with a consistently high quality user feel.”

“With a solid lead in deploying these two sets of open standards – HTML5 more for visual and video communications, and RCS for voice and other personal messaging communications – X-Factor is one of the first companies to be able to develop and deliver the next generation of highly interactive, high-definition, and deeply unified user experiences,” said Charles Saracino, CEO of X-Factor.

Definitions

HTML5 is the cornerstone of the Open Web Platform, a full programming environment for cross-platform applications with access to device capabilities; video and animations; graphics; style, typography, and other tools for digital publishing; extensive network capabilities; and more,” as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), an international standards body where Member organizations, a full-time staff, and the public work together to develop Web standards. W3C primarily pursues its mission through the creation of Web standards and guidelines designed to ensure long-term growth for the Web (http://www.w3.org/). Over 375 organizations are Members of the Consortium, which is jointly run by the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (MIT CSAIL) in the USA, the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) headquartered in France and Keio University in Japan.

RCS is a service upgrade that marks the transition of messaging and voice capabilities from Circuit Switched technology to an all-IP world. RCS and Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) share the same IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) investment. For consumers, it has the potential to combine voice and SMS with instant messaging or chat, live video sharing and file transfer across all devices and networks, via mobile address books.
